Cosh Living welcomes the arrival of the latest collection from Kett Studio, Nelson. The Nelson is an outdoor furniture collection that draws inspiration from the definitive form of sailboats that navigate through the pristine waters of Nelson Bay. Soft winds and blue seas, sailing over calm and steady waters is the core sentiment of this collection. Enduring the embodiment of the Kett legacy, Nelson responds to yet another landscape along the Australian coastline, maintaining the regions essence through colour, shape and form.

The first addition to this collection is the Nelson Armchair. Akin to the structure of its muse, the sailboat, the frame of this chair balances strong linear form that is softened by rounded edging. Powder-coated in three modern colours with a matte finish, the Nelson is sleek and minimal, suiting an extensive range of outdoor dining tables. Much like the requirement of a sailboat, the chair frame is soft by contrast, yet robust in structure to withstand all of Australia’s magnificent weather.

The frame encapsulates the batyline seat sling, charting a precise course that contours the body. The tensioned batyline offers ultimate strength and breathability adding to the appeal and level of exceptional comfort offered by this armchair. The seat sling that cantilevers so effortlessly over the front edge frame, mirrors the curvaceous form of a boat that allows it to passage through a body of water.

Nelson’s durable materials means this chair can be left in uncovered outdoor areas, making it the perfect choice for low maintenance spaces. The Nelson Armchair is yet another celebration of an Australian way of life, the absence of uncertainty and the presence understated elegance. It goes far beyond being just a chair, it transmutes the everyday usage into an orchestration of potential considered experiences.
Designer, Justin Hutchinson, has crafted yet another piece that will age slowly and gracefully. With this collection boasting a harmonious balance of sculptural beauty and refined function, we are thrilled at the thought of additional pieces, that continue to bring to life the splendour that Australia has to offer.
The curvaceous form is prominent in both the frame and the batyline sling of the Nelson Armchair.
