We were delighted to co-host this year's Saturday Indesign event alongside our friends at Cantilever Interiors in our Richmond showroom. It was a day that truly celebrated the best of Australia's design scene, featuring workshops, product launches, interactive installations, and more. With nearly 500 attendees in the Cosh Living showroom alone, it was a memorable and resounding success.  Â
The day began on a high note as attendees enjoyed Padre Coffee and pastries when our showroom doors opened at 9 a.m. They leisurely explored our showroom, finding sunny spots to relax, and setting the perfect tone for the day ahead.  Â
At the heart of our event was Kett, an Australian furniture brand led by renowned designer Justin Hutchinson, known for its timeless quality and technique. Attendees had an exclusive look at Kett's latest collections: Portland, Bellbrae & Feathertop. On display throughout the showroom featured new dining settings, chairs, sofas, and coffee tables.  Â
Adding to the collections was the Cosh Living and Kett an in-house workshop. It provided attendees with a unique behind-the-scenes look at Cosh Living's dedication to local craftmanship and a look inside the Kett Studio.Â
A crowd surrounded the talented upholsterers who showcased their skills by handcrafting leather and fabric tote bags. It was a captivating process, and guests had the opportunity to witness the creation of these beautiful bags from start to finish.Â
In the centre of the showroom stood the EDIT Kitchen, a unique collaboration between KETT and Cantilever Interiors. This beautifully crafted kitchen served as a meeting place, embodying the craftsmanship found in our local industry. It was adorned with fresh flowers and artwork by Kylie Forbes, co-owner of Cantilever, creating an inviting ambience.Â
Throughout the day, food was in abundance served around the showroom, guests could pick up some catering from Small Axe or something freshly baked from the Edit Kitchen by two of Melbourne's best cooks.
Ashley Alexander, an Australian foodie and self-taught cook from Gather & Feast, treated attendees to her decadent Double Chocolate & Halva Brownie Cookies in the morning.
Later, at 1 pm, Dom Gattermayr, Co-owner and Executive Chef of Florian, known as one of Melbourne's best brunch spots, baked a fresh loaf of Florian's signature House Focaccia.Â
A highlight of the day was the insightful Design Talk featuring Cantilever's founding Director, Travis Dean, and Kylie Forbes, Creative Director, in conversation with Justin Hutchinson of Kett Furniture.
Everyone surrounded the Edit kitchen to listen as Kett and Cantilever delved into the dynamics of successful design collaborations and discussed the challenges and rewards of local manufacturing in the ever-evolving design landscape of 2023.Â
To wind down the afternoon, the Cantilever team organised a gin-tasting session with Melbourne Gin Company. Attendees learned about the gin-making process and savoured the distinctly Melbourne flavour created by incorporating locally grown and native botanicals and fresh local rainwater into the distillation process.   Â
Not only was it fascinating to learn about but also added another layer to the event's conclusion. It served as a light-hearted and enjoyable way for everyone to wind down, sharing their highlights and experiences from the day.Â
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the nearly 500 attendees who made this year's Saturday Indesign event such a remarkable success. It was a day filled with creativity, inspiration, and a celebration of the best in Australian design. We eagerly anticipate more such events in the future!Â
