Hosting the House of the Year Awards at our Richmond Showroom

We are incredibly proud to have been the gold sponsor for 2021/22’s annual Grand Designs House of the Year Awards, which was celebrated at our Richmond showroom on April the 28th. We were fortunate enough to host an incredible pool of finalists, that shone light on Australian residential architecture. The twelve shortlisted finalists were an assortment of projects that produced distinguished design and materiality, all with innovation at their core.

It is with great pleasure that we congratulate this year’s winner of the esteemed Grand Design House of the Year Award, The Hawthorne House, designed by Edition Office and built by Flux.

The Hawthorne House celebrates open plan living and the seamless connection between indoors and out. Encompassed by greenery, the home is demarcated by two outstanding textured ‘concrete shrouds’, linked by a walkway and courtyard garden.

The brief for the Hawthorn House was to create a property that celebrated open plan living that connected the interior spaces with the surrounding landscape. The use of multiple textures and materials, created a home that is both visually appealing and physically tactile.

There was another worthy winner on the night. Taking home the people’s choice award, the Crackenback House, designed by Casey Brown Architects and built by Bellevarde Constructions.

This is another outstanding home that celebrated local residential architecture and design. The Crackenback house offer up outback living at its finest. This home is designed to celebrate farmhouse living in a manner that is wholeheartedly Australian. Materials are a key element of this homes design - the use of corrugated steel, rusted steel and concrete, are all materials that can be found on a farmhouse property.

It was a welcome sight to have our showroom back buzzing with guests, celebrating each other’s hard work and shared love of Australian design. We are honoured to have had our showroom action a vessel for continued recognition of local design. After the disruptions to the industry over the past two years, it was a privilege to have such an incredible room of talented creatives from across the nation.
