Designing for Ease and Beauty

The Glen Iris garden seamlessly combines functionality and elegance through flowing, connected spaces designed for accessibility, particularly to meet the client’s needs in her elderly years. Featuring a radial paved entertaining area, a circular lawn, and grass steps, the garden achieves a balance between structural definition and soft, textural elements. Enveloped by plants offering year-round blooms, foliage interest, and fragrant species, this design fosters a tranquil and sensory-rich environment.

Julie Crow’s Vision and Philosophy

Julie Crow, owner and principal designer of Julie Crow Landscape Design, envisioned a space that connects deeply with the environment and reflects the client’s memories, associations, and experiences. The result is a garden designed to adapt and grow with the client over time, blending functionality with timeless beauty.

 

Special Features of the Garden

The Glen Iris garden is defined by standout elements that enhance its beauty and functionality. At its core is the majestic crepe myrtle tree, anchoring the space with elegance and timeless charm. The meticulously laid radial paving, crafted from limestone batten pavers by Eco Outdoor, adds drama while maintaining a soft, harmonious aesthetic.

Complementing these features are outdoor furniture pieces, including DEDON's MBRACE and AHNDA lounge chairs and footstools, as well as Tribù's Drops side table and Nomad ottoman. The AHNDA Footstool here also doubles as a coffee table when removing upholstered top. Together these pieces provide comfort, style, and durability, making the garden perfect for relaxation and entertaining.

Collaboration and Acknowledgments

The success of the Glen Iris garden was made possible by a talented team. Diverse Landscapes expertly handled the installation, while Everbloom Horticulture ensures its ongoing care. Contributions from Plant Multi Nursery, Made at Yandoit, Eco Outdoor, and Cambium Landscapes brought key elements like plant material, bespoke handrails, paving, and arborist services to the project. Gardens at Night and Aqua Lux Lighting created a magical ambiance with their lighting design, and Make It Rain installed efficient irrigation. Together, these collaborators helped bring this project to life.
